1. Had my good friend Seany and his lovely family to stay.
2. Took in a lively hockey game in Nottingham's National Ice Centre. (The Nottingham Panthers beat Cardiff in front of a crowd of 6000 spectators.
3. Received a Christmas pressy of some much needed new Zamberland walking boots.
4. Emptied a box or two of Peroni.
5. Visited Martin Mere waterfowl centre near Southport. Some stunning sights on a freezing, fog shrouded day.

As an aside, does anybody have any regional variations for naming brussel sprouts? Here in the land of the Snots they call them 'nobby greens'. My old Leith-born boss here used to find this very amusing, referring to the Nottingham vernacular term as 'yer green nobblies'.

How about awful, that which I give up for Lent each year and practice in between Lents?

Best when harvested after the first frost, sprout season is short, but glorious, and after January we see little of those baby cabbages in the shops. All hail the mighty sprout.

You can pick them off the plant as you need them. You can even eat the brussel tops - a wonderful vegetable!

Try them without maple syrup, Peter! ;D ;D ;D After years of eating them under protest, I've become a big fan of the humble sprout, as long as it has been roasted rather than boiled.

Waste of fucking time. If I wanted to eat Shrek's gonads I'd have myself converted into an animated rottweiler.
