I've not read any webs or papers yet but I can imagine what their content might be ;-)
A poor result for the Hibees, but we are still in the cup and we still have a pretty decent chance of progressing.
Ross County came to ER with one thing on their minds yesterday. They were going to get the ball, keep possession, keep it on the deck, and attack us at every opportunity as that was their best chance of getting a result.
They did all that and more. County were the better side, make no mistake. I'd bet they had more possession, more competed passes, and more shots at goal. I was impressed by them. If they represent the top half of Div One, then a 16 or 18 team SPL is a MUST.
I suppose they had nowt to lose - no relegation fear, they were under dogs by some way, it was the furthest they'd been in the cup etc. But they still had to perform and they did.
Hibs did make their task easier with our sloppy passing and reluctance to shoot, but we've played worse this season against SPL opposition and they didn't look as good as County did yesterday.
Hibs passing was poor, very poor. Our movement was worse. Stokes must be the laziest looking player I have ever seen in a Hibs shirt, and our heads go down far too easily. We have too many players who go in the huff because they didn't get a foul, or a throw and they lose focus and momentum. They are frustrating fuckers to watch I tell you.
going forward yesterday, we were OK. Not great, but not shit. We scored two and maybe should have got a couple more. From my seat, some dodgy looking offside calls certainly didn't help.
Our midfield was non existent though. County had an extra man in their, but their work-rate made it seem like two or three. We weren't just bossed in the middle, we were invaded and taken prisoner. IMHO it was partly due to players playing shite or not working hard enough - and partly due to Yogi not fixing a glaring problem.
Our defence. Fuck, where do I start?
Paul Hanlon was MoM for me. The lad was kept busy but he kept his head. I don't recall him being turned or bailed out but I do recall many timely tackles and headers won. Well played lad - you HAVE to keep your place in the team. Ian Murray was poor. Well he was probably OK, but poor by his standards to be fair. Spoony was very poor indeed. toasted at almost every opportunity. I think he'll wake up this morning thinking it's Saturday. In his defence, his worst performance to date can be mitigated by a) his age and b) the amount of football he's played this season. He probably needs a rest, but the team needs him in it. Hogg. Hogg fucking Hogg. Hogg was worse than shite. He played shite, he didn't inspire or lead his team. I really can't describe how fucking atrocious Chris Hogg was yesterday. He's not only my scapegoat of the week, but I'd drop him and give Thicot a chance. Either that of release him now and let him find another club - not fussy which really.
As I said though, we are still in the cup.
On any given cup draw you would take a trip to Dingwall over a trip to Dens, Rugby Park, Tannadice, McDairmid or Pittodrie - so whilst not a gimmie, it is still a very decent chance for Hibs to get to the semi final. If we don't take that chance then that would be a bigger crime than yesterday's. Carpe Diem (or bust)
